Dear Citizens of Barrie,
As your Green Party candidate in the June 12 election, I was very disappointed that I could not attend the May 29 all-candidates meeting at City Hall hosted by the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce, and I hope you will understand my reason why.
Just over 4 years ago, my son Gary Gerbrandt was greatly honoured to be accepted to the undergraduate program at Harvard University.
This happened, in large part, because of the incredible support of his teachers and administration at Innisdale Secondary School, for which we remain grateful. When the Chamber informed me that they were planning a debate for May 29th, I warned them that I could not attend on that day, as I was already booked to be in Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend my son’s convocation that morning. Sadly, neither the Chamber nor Harvard was willing to change their plans to accommodate this conflict.
As a Green, I believe strongly in work-life balance and in setting important priorities. In this case, although I am deeply dedicated to running as Barrie’s candidate, my family commitment had to come first.
Nevertheless, I am always eager to meet Barrie voters and answer your questions or address your concerns. If I don’t meet you at your door, you can find me at all-candidates meetings at Grace United Church tonight (Tuesday) and at the Army Navy Air Force club on Saturday morning, or you can reach me directly at Bonnie@BarrieGreens.ca, here on Facebook, or by calling 705-734-4213.
You can also see my platform [here] and learn more about the Green Party’s ideas to address education funding shortfalls by merging our segregated school boards, to create jobs by reducing payroll taxes for small business, to lower your energy bills by improving the efficiency and value of your home, and to ensure our children will continue to be able to access healthy food and water by protecting our prime farmland and water resources from reckless development.
The Green Party is committed to bringing honesty and integrity back to Queen’s Park. We will ensure that our provincial government is functional and works for you, by listening to input at the local level, and working in partnership with all parties to produce good public policy.
I look forward to meeting or hearing from you, and representing you at Queen’s Park.
Barrie candidate, Green Party of Ontario
