(BARRIE) Former NHL player and current Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, “Big” Georges Laraque will be coming to Barrie for two special events on Thursday, November 15. Laraque, former right wing for the Montreal Canadiens, also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes, and Pittsburgh Penguins. After retiring in 2010, he was appointed as the Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada in July. Last year he released his best-selling autobiography “Georges Laraque: The Story of the NHL’s Unlikeliest Tough Guy”, and will speak about his amazing story in Barrie, with copies of the newly-published paperback edition available for sale & signing. Co-owner of two vegan restaurants and a spokesperson at TekSavvy Solutions Inc., he is also a spokesperson for many worthy causes, including animal rights, the environment, and Haitian relief efforts.
The Barrie Green Party will be hosting two events on November 15, both will be at Ferndale Banquet Hall; one a small V.I.P. reception with Laraque, and the other a free public event with Laraque as keynote speaker. The V.I.P. event starts at 6:00 PM; tickets are $100 each and there will only be 25 spots available. The public event starts at 7:00; it is free to attend, with photos and autographs available for a small donation. We will also be auctioning off signed items.
